Class overview
In our class, we will work on reading and writing skills using a variety of literature both fiction and nonfiction. We will review and practice grammar skills to improve writing skills. We will also learn the meaning of Greek and Latin roots and stems to increase reading comprehension.
I strive to develop interdisciplinary units so the students understand the relationship between each subject they have in school. So don't be surprised if you complete a math problem in ELA, or research a topic from science.
About me
I have been teaching for 23 years. I started at a boarding school and taught all 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade subjects. For 21 years, I taught 6th and 7th grade ELA in the Oconee School District. I have a Ph.D. in Education Leadership and am a certified administrator. I wanted to join a team to help with the ongoing improvement of our educational system; Woodmont is the place I wanted to be. I believe in solid foundations at the elementary level and rigorous instruction throughout while developing happy, productive citizens.
Most importantly, I am a mother of two grown sons and two grown daughters. I am also a grandmother of six. My grandmother's name is Maimeo (Irish for Grandmother).
I love getting to know all my students and look forward to developing great readers!
