My name is Lorraine Hendley and I have been teaching Music at Fork Shoals for 20 years this year. My favorite role has been teaching music in the Elementary Setting. However, I have taught Middle School music including 6th grade Band, I've taught High School Choir at Brashier Middle Campus, and I was an Assistant Band Director at Ruffin High School in Colleton County, SC for three years. My main instrument is the flute.
Currently, my family lives in Piedmont. My family includes my husband James, daughter Anna (Greenville Tech), and my daughter Emily (12th Grade at Woodmont HS), and a silly pug named Penelope.
I grew up in Cheraw, SC and graduated from Cheraw HS in 1991. Next, I attended Columbia College in Columbia, SC studying Music Education. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education in 1995. I also have my Master's Degree in Education from Columbia College (2004), and I've earned my +30 degree in mainly Music Education Classes.
Over these past 29 years, I've been a very BUSY person. I served on the Executive Board of South Carolina Music Educators Association in the Elementary Division from 2003-2009. I was chosen as Grove Elementary's Teacher of the Year for the 2003-2004 school year. I served as Lead Elementary Music Teacher from 2012-2014 and was awarded Honorary Membership of the Pleasantburg Rotary Club in 2014. Recently, I spent four years as the Adult Choir director at my church, Fountain Inn First Presbyterian. I have put that on hold to be a better parent to my own kids and serve the students at Fork Shoals with all of my energy!
During VBS at my church one year, a parent said, "Your gift is teaching music to children!" I was honored by the statement and I truly feel that is my calling.
