1st year Teachers/New & GATE welcome to Northwest Middle
We will be meeting once a month(at a minimum) to ensure your transition to Northwest Middle and Greenville County is smooth sailing.
*****Meeting Time: 7:25-8:00 the first or second Tuesday of each month in my office....Make up time will be the same day after school. 3:15-3:45 or as needed.
Meetings dates are as follows: September 13 January 10
October 11 Feb 1-28 (Individual Meetings)
November 1 March 14
December 6 April 11
We will be doing a book study using the text "Your first Year-How to Survive and Thrive as a New Teacher" by Todd Whitaker, Madeline Whitaker and Katherine Whitaker. I will provided you with this book at the Induction meeting August 5, 2022.
Agenda September 13 meeting- We will discuss Chapters 1 and 2 of our book, each teacher will share their thoughts and insight into the beginning of school.
Agenda October 11 meeting- Start time 7:25- 8:00. We will discuss Chapters 3 and 4 of our book, please come prepared to share and bring any concerns you have so we can discuss. Looking forward to seeing you in the morning. Bring your coffee if you like.
Agenda November 1 meeting- In lou of a face to face meeting, we will be using a Padlet to share on Chapters 5, 6 and 7 of our book study. This will be due November 10 thanks you guys are awesome!!! Agenda December 6 meeting- 7:30- 8:00 am Chapter 8 Read it. Please be prepared to discuss and give examples of at least 3 strategies you use to manage your students before you give a consequence. In addition at least 1 strategy you use to manage yourself when students are unruly. As always let be mindful of our time so all will be able to share. We will hold all feedback and comments until all have shared the above strategies. Thanks and Christmas break is right around the corner :)
Agenda January 10 meeting- 7:30-8:00 am Chapters 9, 10 and 11 are professionalism with administrators, and peers please read and have questions you would like answered pertaining to this. In addition I am bringing in a teacher from Northwest who just finished ADEPT last year to share with you some tips and her experiences with this process and professionalism. I will also give you a observation form to use to complete 2 observations of your peers(25-30 minutes each minimum).
Agenda February 7 Meeting- We will not meet as a whole group. Each newbie will schedule a meeting with Ms. Bruce after they complete the 2 observations that were discussed in the January meeting. The deadline for this is March 1. Teachers please complete the observations and have your meeting with Ms. Bruce. If you need any assistance with this process please reach out to Ms. Bruce ASAP.
Agenda March 14 Meeting- 7:30am Chapters 12,13 and 14 will be discussed. Please come prepared to list the top three things you are going to change for next year as it relates directly to your classroom( either management or set or instructional). In addition we will discuss these 3 chapters and what your take-aways are.
Agenda April 11 Meeting- 7:30 am The last 3 chapters of the book will be discussed briefly. We will have a guest speaker who has just completed the ADEPT process with flying colors. This will be our last formal meeting as a group. However as you know I am always available to meet with you as needed. I will continue to observe you and give feedback to help your continued growth as a professional. It has been my pleasure to work along side each of you and help lead you during your first year at Northwest.
