About Mrs. Washington

Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Nancy Washington.  I am an Inclusion Resource Teacher at Beck International Academy.  I will be co-teaching with Mrs. Gray, Ms. Smith, and Mrs. Mathis, in 6th-grade math, and Ms. Kopp, Mrs. Conroy, and Mr. Miss Sutton in ELA.  Before coming over to Beck, while living in SC,  I worked as a substitute teacher, and then a part-time resource room teacher at Hillcrest Middle School.

Just to give you a brief professional education background, before moving south I worked as a Professor/Instructor of Behavioral Psychology at a school named Long Island Institute of Professional Studies, where I taught graduate-level and in-service classes, both on-line and on campus. Some of the classes I taught were Behavior Modification, Criminal Psychology, and Family Law,  Establishing a Bully-Free Classroom, and Environmental Factors and How They Affect Learning in School-aged Children.  I have been in the education field for over 20 years and have a Master's Degree in Special Education/Reading as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Health Education.  I have also taught as an inclusion teacher at Herricks Middle School on Long Island.  However, my most favorite job in the world has been raising my three children.

Well, now that I've given you my professional background, I'd like to share with you a little about my personal life.  My family and I relocated from Northport, NY,  a small town on Long Island,  to South Carolina in July of 2013.  One of the reasons we decided to move was that some of our favorite family members moved south, and we missed them terribly.  We were also tired of all of the SNOW!!

My husband (a PE teacher at Riverside Middle School, and ECRL CESA coach)  and I have three beautiful children. Andrew is 23, a Pharmacy Doctoral Candidate at the University of South Carolina.  Emily is 20, a junior attending The College of Charleton, and majoring in Psychology.  Olivia is 18 and will be attending the University of South Carolina in the fall, majoring in biology. The Washingtons are a very active family. When we are not at school, you can usually find us at the gym, on the soccer fields, at various sporting events, downtown Greenville, or just spending time with our friends, extended family, and our kitties Lucy (the orange cat), Louie (the striped cat), and Leo (the stubby tailed, black cat), and Lily our sweet Holland Lop Eared bunny.

My educational philosophy is that I believe ALL children can learn. ALL children have something special to offer the world, and it is our job as teachers to help them tap into, and reach that potential.  I truly love what I do and I am looking forward to helping your child to be the best that he or she can be.

I am so excited to be part of the Beck Academy family, and look forward to working with your children :)
