Welcome to Accounting. Honors Accounting I will prepare students for the rigor of college accounting. Students will develop an understanding of double-entry accounting. Topics covered include the following: accounting cycle, accounting systems, internal controls, multicolumn journals, receivables and payables, accruals and deferrals, inventory, fixed assets and depreciation, and financial statement preparation and analysis. Computerized accounting systems will be implemented for an up-to-date accounting experience. The pace is accelerated and expectations are higher. This course is highly recommended for motivated students planning to enter a college business program.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
My classroom has high expectations for ALL students. Students will be guided, nudged, and encouraged to strive each day to increase their knowledge and insights into the field of Accounting. I want to empower our classroom by ensuring that each student has a voice that is heard, is given high expectations, and is shown full support and respect.

EXPECTATIONS FOR CLASS BEHAVIOR:
1. Be courteous to each other—always show respect. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
2. Follow all rules in the Student Handbook.
3. Wear your HHS ID whenever you are in the school building.
4. Be in an assigned seat when the bell rings, ready to work; remain seated until dismissed by the bell.
5. No eating and drinking in the business labs.
6. No playing games on the internet.
7. No sleeping in the classroom.
8. No cell phones, earbuds or headphones turned on or visible (state law reference below). Students must place their phones, earbuds/ headphones in their backpacks. The consequences for not abiding are: (1) Detention and parents notified, (2) Referral(s).
SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAWS SECTIONS 59-63-280.
(A) For purposes of this section, “wireless electronic communication device” means an electronic device such as a telephone, personal digital assistant, paging device, text-messaging device, or other device similar in function that can be used to wirelessly communicate with another person.
(B) The board of trustees of each school district shall adopt a policy that addresses student possession of wireless electronic communication devices as defined in subsection (A). This policy must be included in the district's written student conduct standards. If the policy includes confiscation of a wireless electronic communication device, as defined in subsection (A), it should also provide for the return of the device to the owner. At a minimum, this policy must prohibit the use of wireless electronic communication devices in classrooms during periods of academic instruction.
CONSEQUENCES FOR INFRACTIONS ( OTHER THAN CELL PHONES/EARBUDS/HEADPHONES):
1. Verbal warning to the student.
2. Phone call home or email to Parents/Guardians
3. Detention
4. Referral to administrator
Policies:
Online textbooks and student Chromebooks are required every day. Students are expected to be prepared with these items for class each day.
Students must check the stream and google classroom on a daily basis for announcements and assignments. Each day will consist of an assortment of lectures, videos, articles and assignments to go with the material.
Students are responsible for checking to see if they have missed any work during an absence. After an absence, make-up work is due in four days. After the four days, ten points will be deducted every day and then it will be a 60 grade. Content Recovery - late work will result in a 60 grade.
Academic honesty is essential in my class. Cheating will not be tolerated in my classroom. Students will abide by the school honor code at all times.
Students should use the restroom and get water before coming to class. In case of emergency, students must use SmartPass on their chromebook (NOT PHONES) to use the restroom.
When the teacher is absent from school, the students must be on their best behavior with the substitute teacher.
Attendance / Tardies
Students are allowed five absences (including medical and parent notes) from class per semester. Students are allowed three tardies per semester.
PARENT / GUARDIAN COMMUNICATION:
Report cards are sent home at the end of each nine weeks.
Parents / Guardians are invited to join the PORTAL so they have access to their students' grades on a minimum of a daily inquiry.
Parents / Guardians are contacted on an as needed basis by phone or email to discuss student progress and /or behavior.
Parents / Guardians can contact the teacher at any time to discuss their child’s progress and/or behavior for this class.
GRADING SYSTEM:
Students will be graded on daily performance, assignments and tests. At least 60% accuracy is expected on all graded work. Factors to be evaluated and percentages of final grades are as follows:
