Math Department Mission

To offer opportunities for students to think independently and become effective problem solvers.

Math Department Goals:

Students will participate in a math-related reading activity each nine weeks.

Students will demonstrate their understanding of math concepts by engaging in multiple free-response writing activities during the year.

Students will participate in at least one research-based assignment each year.

Class Goals:

Demonstrate an understanding of probability and statistical concepts related to the real world using a variety of problem-solving techniques.

Analyze problems using logic and higher order thinking skills to find reasonable solutions. Read, understand, and communicate mathematically.

Apply technology to perform statistical analysis and complete projects.

Make learning mathematics enjoyable and rewarding.

Course Description:

This course offers probability and statistical content to students preparing for four-year or technical college experiences. The course includes the following; frequency distributions and graphs, data description, probability and counting rules, discrete probability distributions, the normal distribution, confidence intervals and sample size, correlation and regression, and hypothesis testing.

Instructional Philosophy:

Students will be given the opportunity to learn using a variety of instructional methods. High quality work is expected. Classroom activities will include hands-on explorations, cooperative learning, projects, presentations, reading, writing, and lecture. Assessment methods will include tests and quizzes, writing assignments, projects, and homework.
