Question: Where do students learn Guitar at NWMS?

Answer: The Chorus room, just off the cafeteria, is where students will be learning fundamentals of Guitar. All instruments and supplies will be stored in the Chorus room.

Question: What does learning Guitar in the Chorus room look like?

Answer: We have Lyons Classroom Beginner Guitars owned by the school for student use throughout the year. These instruments are stored inside the Chorus room and taken out for use throughout the school day.  Students will take a guitar from the storage area for class and return them before leaving class. NO guitars will be sent home with students

Question: What do students learn while taking Guitar?

Answer: This is a Guitar foundations class where students learn the fundamentals of music through playing guitar. These include rhythm, notation, ear training, music reading, playing alone and with others, reading chord charts, and learning songs to showcase these skills. All instructional materials will be provided by the teacher, including theory practice exercises, chord charts, as well as online materials to reinforce in class practice. This is NOT a guitar ensemble, rather each student will learn and grow at their own pace.

Question: What supplies are needed for Guitar Class?

Answer: Students are provided with a school guitar, instructional materials, and a chair. Students should bring their Chromebooks to class every day, as this is the medium through which we will access lots of our music we will learn to play. Students may bring a personal guitar for use in class if they wish. Students with smart phones will be permitted to download a guitar tuner app to use at the beginning of each class, (students without smart phones may use school provided tuners).
