Grading Procedures:
The following is the Greenville County School District Grading Policy for the 2025-2026 school year:
Grading System:
ACTIVE CLASS PARTICIPATION: 1 grade per class session
The following may be included within this category: students’ on-task attention, following directions, work with other students, taking care of materials/instruments, wise use of time on projects, minor quizzes or projects, homework or required outside projects
STANDARDS-BASED ASSESSMENTS: 2 per grading period
Included within this category are larger or more formal standards-based projects performances, portfolios or group-based activities based on rubrics or established guidelines within the discipline.
Students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade:
M = meets expectation/sometimes demonstrates
P = does not meet expectation
Assessment is mainly attained through teacher observation of participation, concept, and skills developments according to state and national music standards. Grades are kept daily in the record sheet, then placed in PowerTeacher at the end the grading term (total of 9 weeks per term for a total of 36 weeks a year). Parents are notified at mid-term progress reports to students making grades of P.
Curriculum:
Greenville County School District uses an interactive, engaging curriculum called Quaver. I also supplement activities and lessons from Spotlight on Music (a previous GCSD music curriculum).
