Multilingual Media Repository
This website is designed for English teachers in Greenville County Schools in Greenville, South Carolina. It contains digital copies of primary texts in translation so that they can make class content more accessible to students that speak and read a language other than English by choosing excerpts. If you have a request, notice anything I should change, or are willing to share digital copies of primary texts and their translations, please contact me at cjlee@greenvilleschools.us.
Before you use this repository:
I am unfamiliar with most of the languages represented in this list. This has likely cause some inaccuracies. For example, I have trouble distinguishing between languages that use similar written systems like Russian and Ukrainian or Hindi and Punjabi.
Some of these translations are dated or may not be authoritative. This means they may have an excessively elevated tone or may contain offensive and/or dated language.
Some of these texts are transliterated into Roman characters. Others use a completely different alphabet or other writing system.
I've included English versions when I stumbled across them. Some of them may be put directly into an automatic translator. It's not ideal but can help an ELL student get started.
Most of the files are PDFs. However, there are other files types such as .txt, .ePub, and .docx. They should all be accessible on ChromeBooks.
You may need to install multi-language support on your device to view some of these documents properly. Here is an example of a process you may need to undergo with Windows PCs.
