Greenville High School Mission Statement
Our mission is to foster excellence by empowering students to become critical thinkers, productive citizens, and lifelong learners.
Math Department Mission Statement
The math department mission is to offer opportunities for students to think independently and become effective problem solvers.
Course Description
Geometry is the mathematical study of shapes, their properties, and their relationships. The course competencies are presented as a one-year traditional class period course that meets the state geometry standards. Emphasis is placed on student discovery and exploration and on formulating and defending conjectures. Geometry includes an in-depth study of reasoning, polygons, congruence, similarity, right triangles, circles, area, volume, and transformations. Students will use a variety of approaches, such as coordinate, transformational, and axiomatic systems. They will also develop an appreciation for the connections between geometry and other disciplines such as art and architecture. Students are expected to use technology throughout the course, particularly interactive, dynamic software. Students entering this course should have mastered all state mandated Algebra I standards.
Instructional Policy
Geometry is a challenging course that includes extensive practice, hands – on activities, projects, labs, and reading and writing assignments. Virtual lessons, virtual assignments, and real – world applications are used to enhance instruction. Students work in teams and individually to complete assignments. High quality work is essential, and students are expected to re – do work until standards are mastered.
Assessment Plan

Make – Up Work
When a student is absent or unable to complete virtual assignments, it is their responsibility to get the make-up work from Google Classroom. The student has two days per day missed to turn in any homework or class work that was missed for full credit (unless other special arrangements are made). If the assignment(s) are not made up within these time periods, then it is considered late.
CP Late Work
For major and minor assignments, 10 points will be deducted for each day the assignment is late. Students can complete assignments through the end of the unit for a maximum of a 60. Students can complete assignments after the end of a unit, for a max of a 50. Assignments may be turned in until a week prior to the date grades are due.
