Classroom Expectations: In our classroom, students learn to be safe, responsible, and respectful. Children are expected to treat others and others' property nicely, take responsibility for their own actions, and be respectful through their words and choices.
We follow the 4 basic Oakview school rules:
Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself
Walk slowly, second tile, single file, with a smile
Use your quiet voice in the building
Show respect for others and their property
This year, we will be using Class Dojo as a reward tracker. Parents are encouraged to join their child's personal Class Dojo to receive class updates and reminders, and to view their child's point/behavior progress.
Students will receive 1 Dojo point as a reward for awesome choices. Awesome choices could include...making responsible choices throughout the day, following the rules without any reminders, showing perseverance through difficult times, giving best effort, being a helper, or showing outstanding citizenship towards others. Repeated poor choices could result in losing a Dojo point. Repeated poor choices include...excessive talking, excessive blurting out/interrupting, disrespectful behavior towards an adult, classmate, or not following directions during a fire drill or lockdown drill.
Each student has a rubber reward bracelet to keep at their desk for the year to showcase their great behavior. After a child reaches 15 Dojo points, they can trade in their points and choose a fun "Croc charm" to collect and use to decorate their bracelet. We will take off the charms after every 9 weeks and start collecting all over again! Students love to compete with one another to see who can receive the most charms (and be the first one to collect the most sought after charms)!
Students also work together as a table team to earn tallies each week. The table with the most tallies at the end of the week earns a trip to the treasure box.
We also keep track of the whole class behavior with our star compliment jar. As we move throughout the building each day, students are encouraged as a whole class to "show off" their great hallway or lunchroom behavior and receive a compliment from an adult in the building. Each whole class compliment received gets a star placed in our classroom compliment jar. The word "compliment" itself has 10 letters. C-O-M-P-L-I-M-E-N-T. When our jar reaches 10 stars (1 star for each letter) , we trade in the 10 stars for a whole class reward (pajama day, stuffed animal day, popsicles on the playground day, etc.). The class chooses the rewards as they are earned.
