My name is Susan Coccia, and I am a Reading Intervention Teacher. I have more than 20 years of experience in the field of education, with experience in both Special Education and General Education. I was an Instructional Coach for a Special Education Program for 17 years for Broward County Schools in Florida. I am a highly qualified teacher with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communicative Disorders from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL.
In addition to being an educator, I am also a writer and a national presenter on Autism Spectrum Disorders. I am the author of the book Asperger Syndrome and the Elementary School Experience: Practical Solutions for Academic & Social Difficulties (also published under the title "Autism and the Elementary School Experience") and the writer and producer of several autism training programs for teachers, SLP's, OT's, SSW's and parents. I have also had the pleasure of working as a Social-Language Group Facilitator for many years, and I was trained by and worked with the originator Social Language Groups, Sally Bligh, SLP-CCC.
I use my experience as a general education teacher, special education teacher, Instructional Coach, writer, Social-Language Group Facilitator, and public speaker to meet the unique needs of my students and to guide them in using their own special talents to enable them to have the best future possible! I truly believe that all students deserve an education that provides them with the tools they need to be successful and that the best way to accomplish this is through PAWSITIVITY!!!
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my 5 children and their families, mountain hiking with my husband and 2 dogs, creating fresh floral arrangements, and learning new languages.
