Class overview
Individualized Learning Lab (IL/ILL) as well as Supervised Learning Lab (SL/SLL) are academic classes where students work independently on their virtual courses.
IL/SL Students have an in-person facilitator since their online/virtual teacher has regular classes as well as virtual classes. Virtual teachers should be contacted by their students with questions about their course work; their teachers will check messages during their planning periods, before and after school and during their office hours posted on their course front page for students.
My role as a facilitator for our virtual learning students here at Hillcrest High School is instructional support. My classroom promotes an enriching and supportive educational environment where students are encouraged to learn and work on their virtual class assignments.
I also have a brain-break area in my classroom with lots of fun and engaging activities, e.g. games, word puzzles, magazines, art supplies, etc., for students when their work is done. :)
I assist virtual teachers, take attendance, manage discipline (please read the Behavior Code in the HHS Student Handbook, here's the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LtVGTIJ8TqKD4lCGJa9fROSVKa2SfkTz/view ), tutor students as needed, help students stay on task, on track, and engaged in their learning.
I troubleshoot technology issues and communicate frequently and consistently with GCVSP and VirtualSC instructors, the virtual support team, and our HHS graduation team, to help all of our students thrive and be successful.
Our Mission
Hillcrest High School is an inclusive and engaging learning community dedicated to individual and collective growth.
Our Vision
Hillcrest High School will cultivate a legacy of academic and individual excellence to empower lifelong learners to face challenges with integrity and confidence.

About me
Hi! I love helping students succeed!
I began working with GCS in 1997 as a substitute teacher.
I have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, who all attended Hillcrest High School and are proud to be HHS Rams! ❤️I also have a rescue dog named Blue. We adopted her from the Greenville Humane Society when she was 6 weeks old. They say dogs are a human's best friend and she really is my best friend! She's 11 years old, a Border Collie/Lab/Shepherd mix. 🐾❤️
I was born and raised in Hartford, CT. My husband's a former U.S. Marine; when he was on active duty we lived in Twentynine Palms, CA in the Mojave Dessert on the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center where he was stationed. Seeing mountains, Joshua Trees, tumbleweed, cactus and endless sprawling sand was a big change from the abundance of oak and maple trees, flowers, lush green grass and many evergreens in Connecticut's landscape. When my husband finished active duty in the USMC we moved to South Carolina to raise our family. It is one of the most beautiful states with it's majestic mountains, cascading waterfalls, numerous beautiful state parks and gorgeous seashores, I'm honored to call SC home.
I've had a long and diverse career and life which helps me walk in other peoples shoes.
My first jobs were babysitting and delivering newspapers (my friend broke her leg when we were 11 years old so I helped her with her paper route).
When I turned 16 I became a Library Page. After graduating from Bulkeley High School in Hartford, CT, I became a returns clerk at a bank's communication center. I needed to earn enough to pay for a car and then college so I changed jobs and worked for a utility company as an accounting clerk and later a fossil-hydro clerk (clerical was my forte for awhile😉). I needed all of these jobs to pay for my college education and after earning my degree I was promoted to a fossil-hydro engineering technician. I also sold Avon for a few years to try to earn extra money, my old car was always breaking down, sigh.
A few years later I realized that I was in a career field that didn't feel enriching to my soul and needed a change. My dad had been a U.S. Army officer, a teacher, and later was on the Board of Education. We were talking one day and he suggested a career in education. It was a light bulb moment and I've been working in the field of education for nearly half of my life now. 😊
I was a preschool teacher at a daycare and a site director at a YMCA afterschool program before becoming a substitute teacher for GCS (I subbed for 10 years).
After my youngest was born I became an IC and worked from home as a Search Engine Evaluator, then I was offered a part-time remote position as a Senior Internet Analyst. When my kids were older I went back to the career I loved most and now am a Facilitator here at Hillcrest High School. 😊
I love the beach, the mountains, hiking, horseback riding, Tae Bo, the arts, museums, planetariums, SC State Parks, photography, telling stories(we all have a story to tell, I'd love to hear yours😊), writing, drawing, and dancing! I used to dream of opening my own dance school as well as becoming an author!
I attended Jo-Ann Ferrero School of Dance in Hartford, CT, for 6 years with a concentration in Jazz and Modern dance. I love dancing and fitness! I have to work a bit more at staying fit as the decades roll by but I love life and every stage of it!
Along with dance school, I attended Manchester Community College in Manchester, CT, earning an Associate of Science degree in Business Administration and I attended Central Connecticut State University in New Britian, CT, first majoring in Business Management and later majored in Communications.
I love to volunteer and help others. I have walked to raise money for charities that I believe in and over the years Fidelco Guide Dogs and March of Dimes have been near and dear to my heart.
I have certifications in many areas including CPR/AED & First Aid, Nautilus Strength Training, Senior Fitness, Google Data Analytics, Substitute Teacher Training I & II.
