Hello, and welcome to 6th grade ELA (English Language Arts)! I am so honored not only to teach at Beck but to teach your child.
This year is my eighth year at Beck and my 19th year teaching. I've been privileged to live and teach all around the country prior to moving to Greenville in June 2018. I taught in Los Angeles, CA for six years; St. Louis, MO (my hometown) for two years; Gainesville, FL for two years; and Lubbock, TX for one year. In addition to living and working in different communities, I was also able to teach a variety of subjects--from foundational literacy to sixth grade ELA to AP Literature.
I don't have children of my own, but I have three dogs who are my fur babies: Charlie, Beni, and Frisbee. A year ago, I lost Charlie, the oldest, to cancer. He was my first dog, and I miss him greatly. I still talk about him all the time, though!
A year ago, I completed my MS in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences at the University of Florida. Go Gators! It was A LOT of work, and one of my greatest achievements, but I'm glad to be finished. When I'm not in the classroom, I love being outdoors, traveling, and, reading. During the summer I travel to my hometown, St. Louis, to visit my mom, brothers, godson, and all my good friends.
It's my goal to make this year the best one yet for your child. Whether s/he is a reader, writer, or neither, we will find a way together for your child to be successful in my class.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you, and I look forward to working with you!
