Weeks 1–2: Classroom procedures, ensemble expectations, vocal assessments, healthy vocal technique, music literacy review, beginning sight-singing, introduction of concert repertoire.
Weeks 3–4: Continue concert repertoire, tone quality, breath support, diction, rhythm reading, solfege, ensemble blend and balance. Begin preparing students for honor choir and audition opportunities.
Weeks 5–6: Concert repertoire development, musical expression, vocal independence, preparation for SCMEA Region Choir, and begin introducing All-State and ACDA Honor Choir audition materials.
Weeks 7–8: Concert repertoire refinement, individual musicianship, continued audition preparation, SCMEA Region Choir (October 27) and All-State Auditions (November 3–7).
Weeks 9–10: Continue concert preparation, sectional rehearsals, performance practice, GCS Honor Choir (November 13), and continued preparation for spring honor choir opportunities (ACDA, All-State Weekend).
Weeks 11–12: Advanced ensemble techniques, musical interpretation, memorization (if applicable), full ensemble rehearsals, and continued preparation for ACDA Honor Choir and All-State Weekend participants.
Weeks 13–14: Concert repertoire polishing, mock performances, balance, intonation, expressive performance, concert logistics, and introduction of CPA expectations and adjudication criteria.
Weeks 15–16: Dress rehearsals, complete concert run-throughs, final refinements, Concert Performance (Final Assessment).
Weeks 17–18: Reflection and self-assessment, introduction of spring festival repertoire (CPA), music literacy review, goal setting for second semester, and preparation plans for ACDA Honor Choir, All-State Weekend, and CPA.
As needed and if time: Sectional rehearsals, sight-singing, music theory, vocal health instruction, listening activities, rehearsal recordings, individual conferences, audition coaching, and festival preparation.
