Self-Contained K-2nd grades
Overview and learning and developmental goals:
The students will be able to use the strategies provided to them and the modified curriculum as specified in their IEPs to successfully meet their learning goals and objectives in all academic and social areas, including mathematics, reading, social skills, written expression, daily living skills, and behavior.
All students are provided with specialized designed instruction in core academic areas that supplants general education instruction.

- Tools for functional/adaptive skills and self-regulation strategies

Accommodation strategies:
- Sensory movement breaks, calm down area, fidgets if needed
- Positive and edible reinforcers
- Use of Manipulatives
- Multiple or Frequent Breaks
- Close supervision for stairs as needed
- Sign Language
- Wait time
- Preferential Seating
- Verbal reminders before non-preferred activities
- Redirections and verbal prompts
- Adapted scissors, short/fat crayons/markers, etc. to promote functional grasp/use of tools
- Visual Cues
Assessment procedures:
All students participate in a modified curriculum and will take an alternate test that aligns with their SC modified curriculum. Parents will be informed of all differences and their effects on any alternate participations
Grading scale and procedure:
Progress toward the students’ IEP objectives are recorded as follows:
NI=Not Introduced
MP=Minimal Progress
SP=Satisfactory Progress
M=Mastered
NM=Not Mastered
Rules for student behavior:
The rules we go over every day in the classroom are:
1) Take turns
2) Keep your hands to yourself
3) Be kind
4) Listen
5) Share
Procedures for non-instructional routines:
Students are to follow the school procedures for hallways as indicated in the student handbook.
In the event of a fire drill, students line up and quietly walk to the designated area outside.
In the event of a tornado drill, students will line up and walk into the hallway to crouch against the wall quietly.
In the event of any other drill, students are expected to follow the procedures listed in the school and district handbook.
Communication with parents:
Parents are contacted throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to call the school to discuss any concerns with the teacher. There is further communication by:
- Daily Communication sheet that gets signed and returned to school every day
- Progress reports
- Phone calls
- Parent-teacher conferences
- IEP meetings
eLearning Days:
eLearning days may occur throughout the school year and student Chromebooks will be sent home at the beginning of the year in order for the students to be able to connect to the lessons on GoogleMeet. There will be communications going to parents advising of schedule changes and teacher will communicate the schedule to be followed.
