Your child's red folder will contain a monthly calendar that will be used to show you how their day went. Please check this every day. I will sign it with a "happy face" ๐, "straight face" ๐, or "sad face" โน๏ธ. If your child has a straight face or sad face, there may be a number written next to it. This is to indicate what the behavior was that your child struggled with that day. The key will always be on the back of the calendar.
Calendar Behavior Key
I was talking when I was not supposed to be.
I was not doing my work.
I put my hands or feet on someone else.
I was not following directions.
In our classroom, students are expected to follow 5 main rules:
Listen when your teacher is talking
Follow directions quickly
Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school
Raise your hand to speak or stand
Be safe, be kind, be honest
Students will work to earn points for their table team by following these rules, as well as being a generally kind and helpful member of our classroom community. The table with the most points at the end of the day will get to choose from the Treasure Drawer. Items in the Treasure Drawer will vary from pencils, erasers, and small toys, to special privileges (e.g. lunch with the teacher, choosing a GoNoodle, bubbles/chalk at recess, etc.).
For students who may struggle to reach the behavior expectations, we will follow a tally system. If students are showing unsafe/unkind/disruptive behavior, they will receive a tally on a template kept by the teacher. Before a student receives their first tally, they will receive a verbal warning and a redirection. If a student does receive tallies, their consequences will be as follows:
1 tally = The student will walk 1 lap at recess and have a conversation with Ms. Currey or Mrs. Levesque to discuss the behavior/consequence.
2 tallies = The student will sit away from friends at lunch or walk 2 laps at recess (depending on the time of day). Ms. Currey or Mrs. Levesque will discuss the behavior/consequence with the student.
3 tallies = The student will lose a privilege. Privileges in the classroom consist of the use of iPads/Chromebooks/toys/book buddies. Ms. Currey or Mrs. Levesque will discuss the behavior/consequence with the student.ย
4 tallies = Ms. Currey will contact the student's parent/guardian to discuss the behavior and possible solutions.
5 tallies = The student will be referred to the Assistant Principal for further assistance.ย
