About Us
I am the Reading Intervention Coordinator at Sara Collins with 22 years of teaching experience. I hold degrees from Clemson University (B.A. '93, M.Ed. '94) and am certified in Early Childhood and Elementary Education, as well as Orton-Gillingham. I am the proud recipient of a Ducktorate Degree from the Walt Disney College Program.
My husband Tim and I have three sons and a daughter in law: Jackson & Brooklyn, Reed, and Michael, who are current Clemson students. As newly empty nesters, we’re enjoying this new chapter. I’m a huge Clemson fan, love the beach, and my favorite pastime is reading.
I am Debbie Carter. This is my first year at Sara Collins and I am very excited to be apart of the Reading Intervention Team. This is my 39th year of teaching in Greenville County. The last five years, I worked as an interventionist at a Title 1 school.
I am married to Mike and we have two adult children who have children of their own! We are truly blessed to have 3 grandgirls. They all live here in Greenville.
I love to read, go to the lake, and spend time with my bible study group as a leader.
I am excited to be back at Sara Collins Elementary this year in a new role! Before taking a few years off, I taught 12 years in the classroom. Five of those years were in 2nd grade at SCE. My favorite part of my day with my students was reading with them and seeing the light bulb go off in their brains as they became a fluent reader.
Now, I will get to see this daily as I am a part time reading interventionist. You can find me at SCE on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
When I am not at SCE, I am wife to Bryant and mom to Drew (1st grade) and Elise (3 years old). We are a sports loving family and cheer for so many teams. Some might call us confused fans! On the side, I have an online children's boutique with my sister in law.
It is going to be a great school year as we celebrate 60 years of Sara Collins Elementary.
This is my 14th year in education. I began my teaching career in Spartanburg before moving to Greenville County seven years ago. I have experience teaching 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. I earned both my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and my graduate degree in School Leadership from Furman University.
My husband, Neal, and I have four children who keep us busy. We love traveling together as a family. In my spare time, I enjoy going for walks and reading. I'm excited for a great year at Sara Collins!
