Behavior Expectations

Positive Behavior

Within our classroom, I encourage positive behavior through the collection of stickers on weekly token boards as well as stellar class behavior with Kindness Sprinkles. With 5 stickers (One for each day of the week) students will be able to pick out from the treasure bin for a prize to take home on Fridays When the class recieves 15 Kindness sprinkles they earn a class party!

During the day, students are observed on their behavior on a 3 point scale.

3 points: Following all expectations (Excellent)

2 points: Needed 1-2 redirection prompting

1 points Needed 3 or more redirection prompting

0 points for refusal/ disruption to class.

These points will be recorded for every section during the school day;

Morning meeting, Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Science, Related Arts, Lunch and Recess for a total of 164 points  if students receive of 80% or higher on their points charts they will receive a daily sticker for overall good behavior.

*Please note, these points are NOT publicized or discussed within the class, this is purely for data collection and overall behavior within the class as well as to identify areas of struggle to better support our students.*

I believe in positive reinforcement as well as second chances! This is why, students will be able to earn stickers they may not have earned the previous day by displaying signs of self regulation or ability to calm down independently. These can be done by showing deep breathing exercises, choosing safe choices like our calm down corner, or a stuffed animal to squeeze, and of course using their kind words.

Zones of Regulation

Part of our Social Emotional Learning curriculum, We will be learning, practicing and understanding Zones of Regulation.

The Zones of Regulation are based on a color scale

Blue: I'm feeling... Sad, Tired, low on energy

Green: I'm feeling... Happy, Ready to learn, normal amount of energy

Yellow: I'm feeling.. silly, frustrated, worried, anxious, higher energy

Red: I'm feeling... angry, aggressive, out of control, Extremely high energy.

The basis of the zones of regulation is to not put a label of normal emotions. I preach to my students that they are allowed to feel these emotions and that no emotion is consider "bad." We discuss that these emotions are expected at certain parts of our day. For example: Most if not all of our students may be considered "Blue" during the start of school, this is expected because they may still be tired. Same with yellow, students may feel anxious or worried before an exam, or presentation or feeling excited and silly during lunch and recess and these are also expected.  We explain this to our students and also explain that "Red" our "Out of Control" zone is never expected in school, but if there comes of time a student gets to a "red" zone we provide safe and smart choices to bring them back to a more expected zone.
