English I Honors Class Overview & Syllabus

English 1 is designed to prepare students for College and Career readiness as required by the South Carolina State Standards. The curriculum exposes students to a variety of genres, both literary and informational. At the Honors level, the content of the English I course is generally similar to CP, however, the requested rigor of the standards is heightened to prepare students for further honors, AP, and Dual Credit courses. Students will be asked more analytical and critical thinking questions aside from standard comprehension questions. Student writing will go beyond standard Text-Dependent Analysis and focus on whole text literary analysis. Students will be supported through this increase of rigor through matching content and skill-based lessons. Students should leave class with an understanding of content and ability to masterly perform the skills that standards require.
