My name is Emily Melson, and this is my first year at Hughes Academy. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with my degree in English in 2019, but I have loved literature and stories my entire life. 

Stories are the way I first connected to the greater world around me. Through stories, I have traveled to far-away countries, met hundreds of people very different from me, and gained an ever-deepening compassion for our human condition. I look forward to sharing this experience with my seventh graders this year. 

In the story of my own life, I have a wonderful husband and two deeply kind, imaginative, and very funny children (4 and 5 years old). They are my sunlight. In our free time, we work in our vegetable garden, read, cook, and spend time outside. 

I am eager to begin this first chapter of our story as a seventh grade class. I am always available for phone calls and questions and I look forward to working as a team to ensure your student is successful. It's going to be a fun and fulfilling year!
