Hello! My name is Kate Leonard. My family and I moved to Greenville from Northern Michigan in 2018. I grew up in suburban Detroit and lived throughout the state before relocating to the South.
I earned my first degree in Land Use Planning and Environmental Analysis from Central Michigan University. After working in that field for a few years, I returned to CMU to complete my teaching degree. I also hold a Master’s degree in Reading & Literacy from Marygrove College.
This is my 20th year in education and my third year at Buena Vista. I’ve taught first through sixth grades and have also served as a Title I Reading Specialist and Reading Interventionist. I'm thrilled to be back in 4th grade. I love being a Buena Vista Bobcat and take great pride in being part of the legacy of this special school community.
My husband, Jason—better known as Coach Leonard—teaches Life Fitness at Northwood Middle. We met during our college years at CMU. We have three wonderful children: Aden (22), Baron (19), and Evelyn (13). Our family wouldn’t be complete without our two dogs: Elway, a playful Bernedoodle, and Havana, our spunky mini Yorkie.
With Coach Leonard having coached for 26 years, our family has practically grown up on the football field! We’re passionate football fans and enjoy attending college games. We also love spending time at the beach, having family game nights, and cheering on our kids in their many activities. In my quiet moments, I enjoy crocheting and reading. Some of my favorite children’s authors include Kate DiCamillo, Mo Willems, and Beverly Cleary.
