I am so excited to be your child's first grade teacher! This is my 9th year of teaching and my 4th year teaching at Sterling School! I previously taught third grade in Fort Mill School District for 4 years, then fourth and fifth grade in Pickens County, and then third grade here at Sterling for three years. I couldn’t be more excited to share that this will be my first year teaching first grade! I’ve been deeply focused on developing my skills in early literacy instruction, and I’m thrilled to bring that passion into this new role. I feel incredibly grateful to have the support of the amazing Sterling First Grade Team as I begin this exciting new chapter.
I spent most of my childhood in Fort Mill, near Charlotte, NC. I graduated from Clemson University in 2016 with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. I then graduated from Winthrop University with a Masters in Literacy in 2020. That fall, I moved to Greenville and have called it home ever since. I’ve completed the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Level training. This has equipped me with tools and strategies to support foundational reading and writing skills for all learners, including those who may benefit from additional support. This year, I will continue growing as a literacy educator by beginning the Associate Level training through the Orton-Gillingham Academy. This next step will allow me to deepen my knowledge of structured literacy instruction and better support the diverse needs of students in our classroom. I have a passion for teaching kids to read- that is what first grade is all about! Not to mention that math has always been one of my favorite subjects to teach since it is so hands on and allows fun math games!
I spend my time out of school with my husband, Tyler, and our new puppy, Wrenley. We love going to our favorite restaurants, walking through the many parks in Greenville, hiking, biking, and kayaking. I have always had a love of working with young children, developing strong relationships, and teaching based on student interests. Teaching your child is a true privilege! I look forward to CELEBRATING who they are each day and working alongside you to help them grow.
