7th Grade Science

Course Description & Content:

Science is a way of understanding the physical universe using observation and experimentation to explain natural phenomena. Science also refers to an organized body of knowledge that includes core ideas to the disciplines and common themes that bridge the disciplines. This year in 7th Grade Science, Greenville County wants to implement more Project Based Learning (PBL). Students will be learning based around a series of projects and will gain hands on experience that will help anchor their knowledge in the real world.

Quarter 1

1st Quarter: The first quarter will focus entirely on Chemistry. Our first of 5 units that we will cover throughout the year. “Matter and its Interactions” will take us through atoms, elements and the periodic table while also exploring different chemical reactions and mixtures.

Quarter 2

2nd Quarter: The second quarter will be focused on two separate units. The first of which will be about 6 weeks and the students will learn about kinetic and potential energy. The last 3 weeks will be “Molecules to Organisms” where we will start at the molecular level and work our way up through cells and tissues into organs and organ systems.

Quarter 3

3rd Quarter: Will be solely focused on “Ecosystems, Energy, Interactions and Dynamics.” This unit will break down an ecosystem into its components and explain how everything works together.

Quarter 4

4th Quarter: Quarter 4 is really an expansion upon Quarter 3 and everything else that the students have learned up to this point. It will focus on “Earth and Human Activity” and will discuss human involvement and interactions in our world.
