HOMEWORK- To Reinforce & Review Skills Previously Taught
HOMEWORK BINDER: Logical Labradors use a binder for their homework to keep it in one place. This includes study guides and spelling words. Assignments are listed in the Weekly Newsletter that is emailed to parents each week. Organization is modeled in class so that students understand the procedure and what is due on Fridays (or the end of the school week). It is important to return the Homework Binder each day, as it contains work that we will be using in class.
Homework is optional, however, greatly incentivized in the classroom with the intention of increasing student motivation to complete it at home. Students are given class coins to purchase rewards when they turn in completed homework on Friday. Please do not spend over 60 minutes each night on homework. I recognize that every child is different; some fly through homework and others move through it at a slower pace. Also, some weeks are busier than others. I leave the decision about homework up to parents to determine what they think is best for their child.
REGULAR OPTIONAL HOMEWORK:
Most weeks a math and reading sheet will go home to complete by Friday.Â
Children should work on Math facts regularly. We will have fast fact quizzes with the goal of mastering all four categories: addition in Q1, subtraction in Q2, multiplication in Q3, and division in Q4.
The most important part of your child's nightly homework is to read for 20 minutes. This can be any reading of their choice. They may either read to another person or to themselves. Students have a reading log to fill out each night and receive prizes when the form is completed.
Spelling tests are on Thursdays. I will teach the phonics skill during the week. Families can decide how much needs to be done to prepare for the spelling tests. Homework isn't collected for spelling.
Your child will need to be prepared for Unit tests. Study guides for most subjects (when applicable) will be sent home roughly a week prior to the test.
