Course Description:
This one-half unit (.5) Personal Finance course fulfills the requirement for graduation credit. It is designed to help students develop skills to make informed financial decisions, manage financial resources, and plan for future financial success.
Learning Objectives for the Course:
Students will learn the basic principle of personal finance and how to manage their money in a global economy, which include budgeting, banking, insurance, mortgage, savings, and investments.
Engage students in real-world problems by collaborating with others in the classroom
Students will also learn about consumer protection laws, internet safety, and cyber security, enabling them to safeguard financial information against technology-based attacks

Materials needed:
Pencils/Pen, paper, composition notebook, Chromebook (provided by BMS)

Classroom Expectations:
Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn everyday.
Show respect to yourself, your peers, your materials and equipment and the instructor at all times.
Be responsible for learning the material presented during class.
Help maintain a clean classroom environment.
Follow school rules outlined in the school handbook and district student handbook.
Classroom Procedures:
Enter the class quietly and go directly to your assigned seat. Do not open Chromebook until instructed to do so.
Take out class materials and get to work on the daily To Do Now (TDN) posted.
Place personal belongings under your workstation.
Raise your hand if you have a question or would like to share information.
Get permission to get out of your seat.
Grading Policy/Practices:
Major grades - 60% of grade (Quizzes, classwork/homework)
Minor grades - 40% of grade (Tests and or Projects)
District-wide grading scale is as follows:
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
59-below F
Late Work Procedures:
Students are expected to follow classroom rules and complete assignments during the allotted class period. Any student off-task and not completing classroom assignments will receive a disciplinary infraction. However, if a student misplaces an assignment or needs to hand in any work after the assigned due date, then they will need to adhere to the following late work policy. Students are encouraged to use time before school, after school and during SAIL to complete assignments to avoid late work. If a student is absent on the date an assignment is assigned, the student will have 5 days without penalty to make up the assignment.
Bryson Middle Redo/Retake Policy:
Bryson Middle School strives to provide students with a rigorous academic curriculum, balanced with multiple modes and opportunities to demonstrate their learning. We understand the unique development and needs of our middle school learners and believe that true learning often takes place at different paces according to individual pathways of readiness. We believe that learning from mistakes is an integral part of developing a lifelong growth mindset, and this process promotes student reflection and ownership of their learning. These beliefs, aligned with district assessment guidelines
When are students allowed to redo/retake?
Students may turn in late work or be allowed to retake at least one major assessment without penalty within the first seven weeks of the quarter.
Redo/Retake Information
Students/parents must submit their request for a redo/retake within one school week of the graded assessment being returned.
The original grade will be overwritten and the most recent grade recorded. The original grade will be noted as a comment in the gradebook
The higher of the two grades will be recorded in the Gradebook.
Redo/Retake assessments will cover the same standards, but the format and questions will be determined by the teacher. Alternative assignments may be required at the teacher’s discretion.

MagicSchool AI Tools for Students
This year, students will have access to MagicSchool AI, a generative AI platform built for schools that will help them learn to use the technology safely and responsibly.
With tools like ChatGPT and others being used in the professional world, it’s important that students learn how to use the technology safely. By using MagicSchool in our classes, your student will be prepared for the future of technology in the workforce.
While students use MagicSchool tools for purposes such as receiving real time feedback, getting their questions answered, generating images, and in other exciting ways, I will have access to their chats to ensure that it’s used appropriately. Rest assured, MagicSchool does not collect or train on student data.
Be sure to ask your child about how they’re using AI in the classroom and take a look at the engaging ways they’ve utilized the MagicSchool tools to enhance their learning!

Course Description:
This course is designed to provide middle schools with a course in which students are introduced to career possibilities in the sixteen national career clusters adopted by the South Carolina Department of Education. Students will have an opportunity to explore job tasks and career opportunities in each cluster while identifying pathways from high school to post-secondary education and the workplace.
Learning Objectives for the Course:
Students will learn skills needed for success in college and careers with relevance to academic standards. This course is exposure to help each student gain an understanding of careers in order to assist in the development of an initial Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) in the 8th grade.
Course Outline:
UNIT A: Explore the role of work and careers.
UNIT B: Identify employability and career ready skill sets that promote success in the workplace.
UNIT C: Make connections to entrepreneurship practices and financial literacy as it relates to the world of work.
UNIT D: Examine nontraditional careers and equal opportunities
UNIT E: Identify and explore career opportunities in each of the 16 nationally recognized career clusters.
UNIT F: Develop a brief career portfolio.

Course Description:
Digital Literacy is designed to equip students with many of the needed digital and computer literacy skills necessary to prepare for creating, finding, and evaluating data and information. Students will be exposed to a broad range of computer technology along with a working knowledge of computer software and hardware. Students benefit from an understanding of a wide range of applications (e.g., document processing, presentations, spreadsheets, and web-based resources). Safety, use of technology, social, emotional, career, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skill attainment are embedded throughout the course.

Prepare students to be safe, responsible and innovative digital citizens
