In sixth grade, English Language Arts classes really build upon prior knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and the mechanics of writing. In our class, we will emphasize on the development of particular types of writing, specifically informative, argumentative, and narrative compositions. Students will build their vocabulary through the acquisition of 250 different of Latin/Greek word stems throughout the year. Mastery of these basic components of many words will help students to understand (or figure out) larger, more complex lexicon later on in their academic careers. As a class, we will endeavor to understand other cultures and customs through the reading of a variety of informational texts. The skills gleaned this year will help students master all other subjects and carry them throughout life!
