Hi, my name is Ameka Cruz and I have been an educator for over twenty years. I am originally from Lynchburg, VA where I taught Math for eight years and Special Education for three years before my family moved to Greenville, SC, when my husband got a new job in the area. I taught Math at J.L. Mann High School for eight years before joining the Alternative Education program as the Instructional Coach for the last five years. I am excited to return to the classroom this school year as a Special Education teacher and join the Riverside family.
I am mom to a daughter, Timbre, 23 (RHS '20), who works as a mechanical engineer at a Greenville company and runs a micro bakery (Mason's Dough & Co) with her husband, Matthew. My son, Jeremiah, 19 (RHS '25), works full-time and is studying mechatronics at Greenville Tech. My daily comic relief is my Yorkie mix, George, and my granddog, a dachshund named Slinky.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Sweet Briar College, a Master's degree in Special Education from Lynchburg College, and received my School Administration certification through Gardner-Webb University. I love to read, watch television (especially General Hospital and true-crime docs), and I love music (singing is my passion). I firmly believe that all children can learn and thrive if they have teachers who meet them where they are and believe in them. Here's to a great school year!!
