Student Expectations

Our classroom expectations are set in place to ensure a happy, safe, and fun learning environment for all. We will remind and work daily with the children on these expectations. When necessary, a child will receive a note and or a phone call home about specific behavior that needs to be discussed. Our goal is to maintain communication with parents in order to help the children become successful with managing his or her own behavior. Typically, if a parent does not hear from the teacher that means their child has had a great day at school and they should be proud! J Our classroom expectations are simple and kid friendly. We use positive reinforcement and teach our students how to treat others. We only use a time-out or thinking chair after two or more reminders are given. When a student is displaying unacceptable behavior, we take the time to show them what went wrong and how we can fix it, how we can make a better choice next time and to identify with their friends feelings. Large Group: When sitting on the carpet, each student has their own square, which they must stay in, so they do not disturb the person beside them. Students are expected to sit “criss-cross applesauce” with their hands in their lap, listening ears, looking eyes and facing forward.

Classroom Expectations

1. Be kind to others – help others, keep hands and feet to self, play nicely with peers, respect others, use kind words, etc.

2. Listen and follow directions – we are engaged on the teacher or activity using our looking eyes and listening ears. We obey the teacher and use our manners.

3. Be safe- walking feet in the hallways, classroom, and cafeteria, calm body, not throwing objects…etc.

Behavior Clip System

SUPER STUDENT (purple) – student has done super and had an outstanding day!

GOOD CHOICE (blue) – student has made a good choice!

READY TO LEARN (green) – student is ready to begin the day, learn, and make good choices – all students start on green at the beginning of the day

THINK ABOUT IT (yellow) – student receives a warning and needs reminding of appropriate behavior

TEACHER CHOICE (orange) – student has a hard time making good choices after warning and redirection, the teacher will choose the appropriate discipline

PARENT CONTACT (red) – student continued to make sad choices after multiple reminders of appropriate behavior – If a child is displaying negative behavior or intentionally hurts another person a note will go home. If you receive a phone call about your child’s behavior, it is serious and we need your help to reinforce positive behavior. Continuous behavior problems will result in an office referral.

When students are following the rules and expectations of the classroom and do not clip down more than twice during the week, they get to choose a prize from the treasure box on Fridays.
