Why is History essential in your education?

Course Description

      IB U.S. History is a college-level course designed to provide students with the analytic skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in United States history. IB U.S. History provides a chance for students to understand what history is, why to study history, and the impact that the changes of history has overtime on a country and its people. This course is a two-semester survey of United States history from the Age of Exploration to our present time. 

Along with learning the scope and themes of U.S. History, students will learn to think critically, participate in discussions, and have multiple chances to read and write as a historian. The skills of reading and assessing historical materials will be essential to help develop the student’s ability to write an IB History level essay. Historical materials will be assessed for their relevance, reliability, and to weigh the evidence and interpretations presented in historical scholarship. IB U.S. History is designed to give high school students college credit before leaving high school, which means that the course will be rigorous and gratifying to any scholar. 

I want to encourage each of you to approach this course with a good work ethic. We will cover material at a rapid pace covering all major themes in U.S. History, so do not allow yourself to get behind. As a high school student, I expect you to be responsible, considerate and respectful of both your teacher and your peers. It will be your responsibility to keep up with assignments including those missed due to absences and/or tardies.

            1. Interactive Notebook. EVERYDAY!! Details will be explained.  

            2. Chromebooks

            3. Hard Work and Dedication!

**Daily Classroom Materials will be provided such as colored pencils, highlighters, notecards, etc.

Required Testing

S.C. USH End of Course Exam

The End of Course Examination is a mandated by the State of South Carolina.  The test will consist of 55 multiple choice questions and will constitute 20% of the student’s grade.  The test will be given sometime during the last two weeks of the semester. This cumulative test that is very rigorous. Students must attend and keep up with curriculum in order to attain a passing grade.

*Advanced Placement Test*

  In order to gain college credit for taking this course, students will be required to take a final exam administered by the College Board on May 5, 2023.  With a minimum passing score of 3, students will obtain a history credit in the college of their choice.
