Music Syllabus

MRE Music Program

The music department provides an opportunity for all students to emerge themselves in the experiences of the fine arts.  Students in Kindergarten receive 30 minutes per week and students  in first through fifth receive 45 minutes of musical instruction per week. Fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to audition for our chorus.  Chorus time will be used to expose advanced students to choral and theater instruction above classroom objectives.

Units of Instruction and Long Range Plans

Each student will be taught the South Carolina Fine Arts Standards. When possible I integrate regular-ed classroom standards and themes into my lessons to provide connections between the classroom and the arts.

 Music Materials

My main source of information comes from the district approved music series, Spotlight on Music.  This includes teacher/student textbooks, and CD set for each grade K-5.  I also will be using numerous other music books from my personal library, old book series, sheet music, etc.  Classroom instruments, the keyboard lab, and technology equipment will be utilized.

 Technology

The room is equipped with a Promethean Board.  Computer activities can be held class wide due to this equipment (all students can see computer work on TV screen).
