Welcome to Mrs. Agnew’s Classroom!
I am so happy to have your child in my classroom this year! Our school year is going to be filled with fun activities, making new friends, tons of learning opportunities, and many exciting new experiences.
A little bit about me:
My name is Catherine Agnew and I LOVE to teach! This will be my 14th year teaching here at Oakview Elementary School. I previously taught preschool special education in Athens, Georgia for two years. I graduated in May 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education. In May 2012 I received a master’s degree in Special Education Adaptive Curriculum, with a concentration in Classic Autism, from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. I love sports, especially Georgia football, Braves baseball, golf, animals, cooking, baking, sewing, and crafting. This summer my husband, Preston, and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary. We have a 4 year old little boy, Andrew, and a 2 year old little girl, Abigail. They are our greatest blessings! Andrew is the best big brother! Andrew will be in our 4k class at Oakview this year. I am so excited to have him at school with me. Andrew and Abigail definitely keep us busy and on our toes all the time! We love spending time with our little kids, cooking and baking together, golfing, and just spending time together! I believe that all children can learn and I work my hardest to make sure they reach their highest potential. I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with such amazing children!
About our class:
Our classroom will operate with two primary intentions: first, our curriculum and second, your child’s distinct needs as outlined in his or her Individualized Education Plan (IEP). I will collaborate with our general education teachers for planning during the times when our students are mainstreamed out in the general education classroom. I then individualize my instruction according to each of my student’s specific strengths and needs based on their IEP objectives. Each student will also receive small group and whole group instruction to explicitly target goals and to collect data that will show student progress towards reaching long term objectives. Every Monday we will send out Monday Memos with information about what we are doing in our class and important dates to save. Our Monday Memos will be emailed out and posted on my website.
A little bit about our Teaching Assistants:
This is Cindy Abare’s 1st year working at Oakview but she has previously subbed in Greenville County Schools and even subbed in our classroom. She was born in Canada and has lived in the US for 25 years. She also lived in Germany as an expat and taught in Early Childhood at Munich International School while living there. She and her husband, Steve, have 5 children, Kyle, Alex, Stefan, Daniel, and Katie (Daniel and Katie are twins). She enjoys the outdoors and spending time gardening and hiking.
Lynn Mills will also be working in our class this year. She has subbed with Greenville County Schools for over 20 years! She also works in Oakview’s EDP program. Lynn and her husband, Charles, have two children Peyton and Kayley. Peyton is married to Allie and they have a one year old daughter, Amelia. Lynn loves spending time with her granddaughter! Kayley is getting married in December and is currently deployed with the Army National Guard. Lynn loves spending time at the beach, chocolate coffee, and anything chocolate. She also enjoys going to trivia night once a week with her friends.
