Mr. Perkin was born and raised near Owosso, MI, and graduated valedictorian from Corunna High School. He went on to graduate from Michigan Technological University summa cum laude with a BS in chemistry, minoring in mathematics and a concentration in secondary education, having taught both freshman chemistry lab and as a TA for the senior spectroscopy lab. He has taken graduate courses at Cambridge College, Michigan State University, Clemson, and USC-Aiken and has a MEd from Limestone University in STEAM Education. He taught six years full-time and two years part-time in Michigan, teaching all subjects and all levels K-12, spending most of his time at junior high science, math, and computers. The majority of his elementary experience is in upper elementary, related arts, and computers. He has taught chemistry, AP chemistry, physical science, botany, and zoology at Blue Ridge High School since the fall of 2008, and has been serving as the Instructional Coach and AP Coordinator for Blue Ridge High School since the fall of 2014.
In his free time, he is an actor and musician, having been in many plays both in Michigan and around Greenville, most recently directing Tryon Little Theatre's production of "Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley" and performing in "Gypsy." He also played with the Shiawassee Orchestra (percussion) and volunteers for several nonprofit organizations.
He comes by teaching naturally: both of his parents are retired teachers, and both continue to work as private tutors.
He lives in Landrum with his two kittens, Angie and Maggie.
