I was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a city very much like Greenville. I received a bachelor’s degree from Cincinnati Christian University and master’s degree from Converse College. I moved from Michigan to South Carolina in 1998. I have taught at Plain since 2007. Before coming to Plain, I taught fifth grade at Bryson Elementary, where I met my wonderful wife. She was a teacher for over 20 years, but is now exploring a new career. My daughter is a student at Plain. My mother lives in Simpsonville and my father passed away in 2006. I have a younger brother who works for Disney in Florida.
Besides spending time with my wife and daughter, I enjoy reading, hiking, using my Macintosh computer, and watching basketball and football. I am a big fan of the Indiana Hoosiers, the Indiana Pacers, and the Indianapolis Colts.
Why am I a teacher? It might be in my genes. My dad was a high school history teacher before going to work for the News-Sentinel, a newspaper published in Fort Wayne. (Now you know why I enjoy history and current events.) My mother was a first grade teacher for six years before I came along and put an end to her teaching career. After that she had a daycare in our home and so I have always been surrounded by children. My grandfather was a professor of civil engineering at Purdue University for nearly 50 years.
