Hello! My name is Melanie Rivers and this is my 22nd year teaching at Mauldin High School and my 28th year teaching. I graduated with a degree in English from Francis Marion University and earned my teaching degree from Clemson University. I graduated from Clemson University with a master's in Administration and Supervision in 2017 and received my master's in ESOL in 2018. What can I say? I love school and I love to learn! :)
I am from the Pee Dee area of South Carolina, but I have lived in the Upstate since 1997. I have lived in Mauldin since 2002. I love the small-town feeling of Mauldin while having the city of Greenville close by.
I have three children: Bailey, Sophie, and Carson. I also have a very spoiled cat named Stevie.
I've taught many English courses, but my favorite is American Literature. I enjoy teaching the historical significance that inspired writers to create their works. I believe if students understand that history is often a writer's inspiration, it will inspire students to become lovers of writing as well.
When I'm not grading papers or spending time with my children, I enjoy going to football games, traveling, reading, and writing. If I have time, I enjoy watching any Star Wars film, Harry Potter, 80's movies, Friends, and many Netflix/HULU/Amazon/Disney Plus shows.
I am looking forward to teaching your student this year. I love teaching and I believe I teach at the best high school in Greenville County! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email or phone.
Have a great year!
