High School Science Elective Course (Block/18 Weeks)
Counts as a SC lab science credit (Honors or CP)
Weekly modules in a self-paced format (No live sessions)
This one-unit elective course gives a comprehensive survey of topics in marine science. Students will explore how ocean biodiversity and marine weather make all life on land possible, examine the diversity of marine life from the smallest algae cells to giant squid, marvel at the near-alien environments of deep ocean ecosystems, and carefully consider the enormous human benefits of ocean resources and the role humans have in their stewardship.
Each unit of study challenges students to observe natural phenomena through virtual labs and make relevant application through project-based learning. This course counts toward the SC high school diploma as a lab science credit.
