The School Counseling Department at Mitchell Road Elementary offers a variety of services for students and families designed to assist students with school success. As a school counselor, I collaborate with parents, teachers, and students in many ways through a comprehensive counseling program. The program utilizes a variety of services and activities to meet the needs of our school. It helps children develop positive personal and social skills, achieve academic success, and promote career awareness. It supports the preparation of college and career ready graduates. All services are to assist with developing students into their highest potential as well toward becoming well-rounded citizens of today and tomorrow.
Core curriculum is provided for all grade levels to teach students about character and social skills as well as help students develop career awareness and academic skills needed for school success.
Small groups are offered throughout the year on a variety of topics. Topics are determined by school needs and change throughout the year. Some examples are friendship skills, coping with divorce or grief, anxiety and more. Teachers, administrators or parents can request that a student participate in a small group.
Students can meet with the counselor one on one to assist with social, emotional and academic needs. Students can self-refer and are also referred by parents, teachers and administration. Sessions are solution focused The Counseling Department provides workshops to assist parents with helping their students succeed in school and beyond. Parents can contact the counselor to discuss concerns or issues. The counselor collaborates with teachers, parents and others to advocate and care for the students of Mitchell Road Elementary.
