A Word from the Wizard — Mr. Edwards
Greetings, travelers of Skyland! I’m delighted to join you on this winding road through learning. Though I hail from Asheville, my journey has carried me far beyond my starting place. At seventeen, I set off on my first great adventure with the United States Navy, and since then I’ve followed many roads—through Virginia, Illinois, Nevada, Florida, Texas, and even across the open sea. Along the way, I’ve explored 42 states, always eager to see what lay just beyond the next bend in the path.
When I was young, a kindergarten teacher once told me I could become anything I set my mind to. That simple truth has guided me ever since. My path has taken many unexpected turns—I’ve worked as a Navy mechanic, investment banker, nonprofit leader, restaurant manager, food pantry director, cross country coach, and small business owner. But the most meaningful turn came when my wife led me toward teaching. It was there I discovered my true place—helping students find their courage, their heart, and their brains as they grow.
I earned my degree from Campbell University and began my teaching journey in Texas through the YES Prep Teaching Excellence program. I’ve had the privilege of teaching grades 5 through 8, and I’m proud to continue guiding 5th graders here at Skyland during the 2026–2027 journey.
When I step away from the classroom, you’ll likely find me outdoors—gardening, hiking, biking, camping, or paddling along quiet waters—still exploring, just in a different way.
I look forward to walking this road together with you and your family. With a bit of courage, a kind heart, and a curious mind, there’s no telling how far we’ll go.
