Mission Brief: Commander Edwards
Greetings, Skyland crew! I’m thrilled to be part of the Skyland Elementary mission. I’m an Asheville native yet I've lived all over the US. I left home at 17 to launch my first adventure in the US Navy. Since then, I’ve lived in Virginia, Illinois, Nevada, Florida, Texas, and spent over a year at sea! I love to explore new frontiers and have traveled to 42 states so far.
My wife and I have a six-year-old son, Elliot, who’s continuing his own academic journey this year as a 1st Grader right here at Skyland!
Growing up, I had a kindergarten teacher who once told me I could do anything I set my mind to and I’ve made it my mission to live that truth. Along my flight path, I’ve served as a Navy mechanic, investment banker, nonprofit executive, restaurant manager, food pantry director, cross country coach, and small business owner. But my greatest discovery came when my wife introduced me to teaching. Now, I’ve found my true calling—leading learners across every subject (even math!) into new galaxies of knowledge.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Trust and Investment Wealth Management from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC, and completed my initial teaching certification in Texas through the YES Prep Teaching Excellence program. I’ve taught 5th–8th grade and I’m proud to continue my 5th-grade mission right here at Skyland for the 25-26 Mission.
When I’m not in the classroom command center, you’ll find me spending time outdoors—gardening, hiking, biking, camping, and kayaking through nature’s wonders.
I look forward to partnering with you and your family this year. Here’s to a stellar 5th-grade journey—let’s reach for the stars together!
My son, Elliot and wife, Erin.
