Rules
In addition to district and school rules, students will adhere to the following classroom rules:
Respect the teacher, the classroom, other students, and yourself
Be responsible for your own learning
Be on time, on task, and prepared to learn EVERY DAY
Personal electronics are turned off and in your backpack until 3:15.
Clean up after yourself or your peers -- if you see a mess, clean it up!
Consequences
If a student chooses to break one of the above-stated rules, the following consequences will be imposed:
Warning
Parent Contact (Letter, Phone Call, or E-Mail) or Live School Points Deducted (both if applicable)
Referral to Administrator
SEVERE CLAUSE: Severe disruptions or violations will be referred immediately to an administrator.
Included in this discipline plan are ways to positively reinforce students who behave appropriately. In addition to using frequent praise, I will reward students with written notes, positive phone calls home, and/or special rewards/privileges.
The rules and consequences are posted in the classroom. They are discussed at the beginning of the school term and referred to as needed throughout the year.
Grading Policies
Homework is given to provide students with extra needed practice to master concepts/skills. Most homework assignments will be to finish classwork/projects, but some additional assignments will be given throughout the year.
All homework assignments and due dates should be recorded by the student.
Students have five days to make up work missed due to an excused absence. It is the student's responsibility to schedule a time with their teacher(s) to make up tests/quizzes. I do remove points for late work without proper documentation or reasoning.
It is the student's responsibility to check the appropriate class folder to receive a copy of work that was missed during their absence, as well as Google Classroom for any notes/online assignments.
Procedures
Raise your hand to participate and wait your turn (no blurting out).
Be seated at the beginning of class and working on our daily warm up posted on the board.
Remain seated unless the activity permits you to move around or you have asked permission.
Always ask permission to leave the room (bathroom, etc.)
Use technology appropriately and when allowed or you will lose your technology privileges.
Assemblies: Students will line up, exit my classroom to the left, and walk to the appropriate location. During assemblies, students will sit with their class. Appropriate behavior is expected and enforced.
Class Change: Academic classes are approximately fifty-five minutes long. Students have three minutes between each classes. Teachers stand at their doors during class change to monitor student behavior. Students will exit my room in a line and line up at the door of their next class. Students entering my room will line up on the right side of the hall and enter my room one at a time.
Collection of Work: Classwork and homework will be placed by the student in the appropriate tray located at the front of the classroom. There is a tray clearly marked for each class period. Online assignments will also be turned in via Google Classroom. These are the only two accepted manner of submitting assignments.
Daily Assignments: Any handouts/assignments given in class will also be posted online in Google Classroom. Students are expected to turn in the original copy of the assignment unless given permission to do it online.
Dismissal: At 3:10, students will be expected to clean up any mess they see, turn in their finished assignments, and prepare for dismissal. Afternoon announcements happen daily at 3:15. During these announcements, students are to be seated and quiet in order to hear any important information. After announcements, students will look at the dismissal system (SAS) on the Promethean Board. Car riders will wait until their name is on the board to report to the 7/8th grade car line. Bus riders will wait until their bus number is on the board to report to the bus loop. Walkers to Hillcrest leave at 3:45. Leaving without your name or bus being on the board will result in disciplinary action.
Emergency Procedures: Routine drills are conducted at specified intervals for fire, bomb, tornado, earthquakes, and bus evacuations. Evacuation routes are posted in each room and reviewed regularly. Lockdown and shelter-in-place procedures have been developed and are initiated by a code sentence over the intercom. Students practice these procedures periodically throughout the school year. During each drill, the teacher must account for all students and complete a People Locator sheet that is given to an administrator. Select students will have specific duties during emergencies/drills in order to help transition smoothly (turn the lights off, close the window blinds, shut the door, etc.).
Homeroom/S.A.I.L.: Students report to S.A.I.L. beginning at 8:00. Students come into the room one at a time and sit in their assigned seats. During this time, attendance is taken and important materials (library notices, letters from PTSA, information from the front office, etc.) are distributed to students. Morning announcements are made during Bryson Morning News. The Pledge of Allegiance and moment of silence are also done during the morning news; students are expected to listen quietly to any announcements being made.
I.D. Badges: For safety reasons, I.D. badges are worn by all students, faculty, and staff. At the beginning of the school year, students are given an I.D. for free. If a student does not have his/her I.D. badge at school by the time they enter their S.A.I.L. classroom, their S.A.I.L. teacher will give them a temporary I.D. that they must wear for the day. Extra I.D.s are available for purchase in the Media Center.
