6th Grade Drama Course Overview:
Course Description:
Welcome to 6th grade Drama! Drama is a place to explore, create, perform, and PLAY! Throughout the course of this 9 week class, we will explore the three tools of an actor! These tools include voice, movement, and collaboration. This 6th grade drama course is an opportunity for all brand new Hillcrest students to be introduced to the most basic (and of the most fun) elements of drama! Our goal for these nine weeks is to work together as a class, gain a better understanding and appreciation for theatre, grow in our confidence and skills, and HAVE FUN! Drama has changed my life in so many ways, and I can’t wait to introduce it to you all!
Quarter One: [Intro to Theatre/Creative Drama]
In this unit, students will begin to develop a greater understanding of theatre, and begin to work together as an ensemble to create through various games and activities. Students will also create and perform stories that we all know and love, as well as some we create together!
Major Projects--
Quarter Two: [Movement and Pantomime]
This unit begins our exploration into the tools of the actor with movement! We will learn how to use our bodies to tell a story and express our emotions to an audience.
Major Project-- Devised Group Pantomime
Quarter Three: [Voice]
This unit moves into our exploration of another tool of the actor, voice! We will learn how to use our voices to express emotions and tell a story to an audience!
Major Assessments-- Readers Theatre
Quarter Four: [Improv/Character Building]
This unit allows students to explore a different form of storytelling, improv! We will explore improv through various games and activities. Then, we will turn our focus to an activity that puts all that we’ve learned together and tells an audience about all of the things Disney DIDN’T tell us about some of their characters!
Major Assessments-- What Disney didn’t tell us!
