Beginning Class - Students should enter the classroom with all of their materials and go directly and quietly to your assigned seat. Materials will be listed on the board. Students shall be seated upright and feet should not be placed on top of tables. Place your book bags/personal items under your table so that it allows for walking between the rows.
What to do first in class -
Homeroom- Each day, students will update their Google Slides Weekly agenda that reflects the activities they should be working on during this time. We will have activities that may be done independently, as a class, or small groups. Each day will have designated topics. Students can always be working in Mathia, No Red Ink, and finishing any work they may not have finished in class.
For math: Spiral Review Warm-ups - Students will work on completing daily spiral review questions every class period. On Fridays, students will submit the entire assignment for a minor grade. Students should begin working on the spiral review questions (posted in Google Classroom through MasteryConnect) as soon as they are seated.
For science: Students will start working on one of the following: a vocabulary chart, a MasteryConnect Starter, or PearDeck Starter. If it is a quiz day the starter could be a game or some form of review.
Announcements – There is to be NO talking during announcements, the moment of silence, or the Pledge of Allegiance. You are asked to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance.
Bathroom Passes – Students will always ask before going to the restroom. They can do this in the form of the hand signal that means restroom. During the class period, students will use SmartPass located in BackPack. Students begin a pass before they leave and end the pass when they return.
Behavior – Proper behavior is expected at all times.
Any horseplay or misbehavior will not be allowed.
Please keep your hands to yourself.
Each student is allotted 2 warnings and a phone call home before having lunch detention. This renews each nine weeks.
If a student needs to step away from the group setting, we will find a secluded spot in the room so that student can regroup their thoughts or actions before returning.
Cell Phones - Cell phones are to be off and put inside of the student’s book bag or other type of bag at all times. Cell phones should not be visible during any part of the school day unless given specific instruction during class to use the device for a learning activity. They may only be used in morning and afternoon holding (not in classrooms).
Class Dismissal – The teacher dismisses the class.
Leave your area cleaner than you found it.
Push your chair under, place trash in the trashcan, and turn in any assignments on your way out of the door.
Line up in quiet single file line.
Earbuds - Earbuds are not to be worn during class changes or lunch. Earbuds are only allowed to be worn during class for instructional use as directed by your teacher.
Food/Drinks–
You may drink water in class unless we are having a lab (NO food or drinks are allowed in the room on lab days).
Water bottles should have a spill proof lid.
Liquids should never be placed on surfaces with chrome books. For example, water bottles cannot be placed on desks, but need to be placed on the floor.
Glass containers are NOT allowed.
All trash and spills must be cleaned by the student in order for this privilege to continue.
If the class room phone should ring –Please remain quiet during the phone call.
Leaving the Room as a Class – Occasionally, we will leave the room as a class. In the hallways, we will travel SILENTLY and SINGLE-FILE with your right shoulder toward the wall.
Lunch –
In the hallway, you will be silent and single file.
We will eat lunch with our 4th period class and at the same table as your 4th period.
If you have lunch detention, you will get in the front of the lunch line. You will report to the designated area. Talking is NOT allowed during lunch detention.
To use the restroom during lunch, ask for the bathroom pass from the teachers' lunch table. If all passes are out, you will have to wait until another student returns.
Makeup Work –
Per school policy, all makeup work for excused absences is due within 5 days of return to school.
On the day you return, it is your responsibility to make sure to ask for any missing material.
When you have completed the missing assignments, please turn them into me.
If it is an electronic assignment, you must email the teacher that the assignment has been submitted.
Moving in the Hallway - The main hallway is often referred to as "the shared learning zone." Students are expected to be quiet as soon as they leave the 6th grade hallway as there are other classes taking place. All students will remain on the right side of the hallway.
Passing in your Work –
Make 100% sure that your paper is labeled with your name, date, and class period. Work without a name cannot be graded.
Work will be collected by one student at the table and that student will turn in your work to the designated class box.
Questions – Students should raise their hands and be called upon prior to speaking. Only one person should speak at a time. Please, ask questions. It is the best way to learn!
Responding to the Teacher’s Request for Attention – When the teacher needs the attention of the class, she will ring the door bell.
Taking a Test –
During a test, talking is NOT allowed.
Talking will be considered cheating and will result in a GFA and parent contact.
Passing notes during a test or test period will also be considered cheating.
When announced in advance, tests are due the day you return from an absence.
Test Retake Policy-
No retakes on minor assessments.
Test retakes are allowed for major assessments, and the highest grade will be recorded.
No minimum grade requirement for test retakes.
Student retakes are not required; however, if the student wishes to retake the major assessment they need to follow the following steps. Student needs to notify the teacher of the desire to retake the assessment. Retakes need to be done within one to two weeks of the first attempt. Retakes will take place in the classroom during a scheduled time. Retakes may also occur during a lab time session which is listed as 1st Period Skill Building on the schedule.
Tardy - You are considered tardy if you are not in your assigned seat before the classroom door is closed by the teacher. After five tardies, you will serve a lunch detention.
Toys/Fidget Spinners - Items that cause motion and noise in class are a disruption to the learning environment. They are not permitted in the classroom at any time. If these items are out during class, the teacher will remove them from the student. The student may return at the end of the day to retrieve their item. If this becomes an incident that occurs on multiple occasions, further behavior consequences will be discussed.
Trash – Please keep trash until the end of class to be thrown away as you exit the room. Please do not crumple up paper during class since the noise is distracting; simply fold the paper and set it aside.
Visitors – If class is interrupted by a visitor, students are expected to continue working quietly on assignments or notes. This is NOT an opportunity for you to talk or get out of your seats.
When you Finish Early – When you finish an assignment early, you can work on Mathia, No Red Ink, or the extra assignment for the topic we are woking on!
Noise Box- If a class gets too chatty during the class period, there will be a noise box colored in until the class gets quiet again. If the noise box gets filled, there will be a consequence for those who were causing the disruption.
Class Reward System- Each class is trying to earn a reward we decided on. The reward will be earned by the whole class working together to follow directions, listen carefully, and participate well in class.
