The street I grew up on!
My name is Mr. Michael Wixted. I grew up in Danbury, CT (hat-making capital of the world), where I taught Grades 7 & 8 for several years in my own neighborhood. I was Head Coach of Track & Field at Danbury HS. More recently, I taught and coached in Long Beach, CA at the Middle School and HS levels. I was Head Coach/Sprints Coach at Lakewood HS. This will be my third year at Mauldin HS - I'm excited to meet my new students and to see my former students in the hallways to say, "Hi!"
I have been married to my wife, Paisley, for many years. We are pet parents of a Poodle mix and 2 Siamese cats.
I enjoy running, surfing, basketball and writing and playing songs on the guitar. We are rabid fans of the L.A. Kings and enjoy going to Greenville SwampRabbits hockey games.

My Philosophy
In my classroom, the attitude that I wish to promote is one of positivity, optimism, and the idea that all students have something to offer and are often more capable than they realize when it comes to Mathematics. In my many years of teaching, I have been inspired by students coming up with great ideas when others may have discounted them. I have also been impressed by the number of students who have given me a view to a topic that I hadn't considered.
As your teacher, I pledge to NEVER embarrass or belittle a student. My role as a teacher has been informed by my own positive and negative experiences, from my kindergarten year all the way through university. Please know that my desire is for all to succeed and that any academic or behavioral expectations I have come from a place of good intent and sincerity.
