Seventh grade science is a general science class with a focus on the study of living things. Also included in this course are the study of science skills, earth science, physical science, life science and chemistry.
General Performance Objectives:
How do atomic and molecular interactions explain the properties of matter that we see and feel? Students develop models to describe atomic composition of simple molecules and complex extended molecules.
How do mass, speed and position affect kinetic and potential energy of objects, and how is energy transferred from one object to another? Students use evidence to support a claim that energy is transferred between objects, and that the relationship of mass and speed on kinetic energy, and position on potential energy of objects interact in a system.
How does matter and energy move through an ecosystem? Students explain with evidence how matter and energy cycle in an ecosystem and describe the interaction of organisms to obtain food to survive and grow.
How are synthetic materials made from natural resources important to people? Students use information to make sense of and evaluate how synthetic materials are made from natural resources and how society has been influenced by these materials
How do organisms interact with other organisms in the physical environment to obtain matter and energy? Students analyze and interpret data as evidence that organisms and populations of organisms are dependent on their environmental resources, explain patterns of interactions with other organisms, and describe cycling of matter and energy flow in an ecosystem.
How is the health of an ecosystem determined? Students construct an argument and evaluate solutions of how biodiversity, ecosystem services and environmental changes can impact the integrity of an ecosystem.
How does surface processes and human activity affect Earth temperature and systems? Students ask questions, apply scientific principles, and explain how human use and of Earth’s resources due to geoscience processes have impacted global temperatures and systems

Disclaimer about Science Pacing for Content: Because our primary goal is to maximize student achievement, material may be added, deleted, and/or substituted at the teacher's discretion based on the individual needs, levels, and learning styles of each class. Creative projects, written assignments and supplemental materials may be included throughout the year as opportunities arise. There will be on-going assessments as well as writing assignments.
Late Work and Retake Policies:
Late Work Policy
Students are expected to complete assignments during class. If late, students must follow the late work policy:
Use time before school, after school, and during SAIL to avoid late work.
If absent on the assignment date, students have 5 days to make up work without penalty.
Retake/Redo Policy
Bryson Middle School supports multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate learning. Learning from mistakes is essential for growth and reflection. Please review our Bryson Middle School 2025-2026 student handbook for more information regarding late work and retake policies.

Success in the classroom is greatly affected by the

In addition, all students should follow all district and school guidelines as specified in the student handbook.
Because we will be conducting some lab
activities, it is imperative that students practice safe behavior. They will be expected to follow the guidelines set forth on the Science Safety Contract.

This year, students will have access to MagicSchool AI, a generative AI platform built for schools that will help them learn to use the technology safely and responsibly.
With tools like ChatGPT and others being used in the professional world, it’s important that students learn how to use the technology safely. By using MagicSchool in our classes, your student will be prepared for the future of technology in the workforce.
While students use MagicSchool tools for purposes such as receiving real time feedback, getting their questions answered, generating images, and in other exciting ways, I will have access to their chats to ensure that it’s used appropriately. Rest assured, MagicSchool does not collect or train on student data.
Be sure to ask your child about how they’re using AI in the classroom and take a look at the engaging ways they’ve utilized the MagicSchool tools to enhance their learning!
