English 1 Honors is a course for academically gifted scholars who have the ability to pursue an accelerated English program. These scholars may be preparing for Advanced Placement English - college level courses - in high school; therefore, the coursework will reflect more rigor than ELA 8. Note: This course carries Honors GPA weighting. This is a high school-level course with high school credit that will count towards the scholar’s high school GPA.
Under the Middle School Grading Policy, the minimum grade that could be entered for any assignment was 50%, regardless of the actual score. However, under the High School Grading Policy, the actual earned grade must be entered — even if it is below 50%.
For example: If a scholar receives a 30% on a quiz in English 1, the teacher will now enter the grade as 30%, in accordance with high school grading guidelines. This ensures consistency with the grading practices used at the high school level and helps prepare students for the academic expectations they will encounter moving forward.
