Mrs. Henning
Hello! I'm Mrs. Henning. I grew up in Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Go Badgers!
I started teaching in January 1997, taking over a 6th grade class after 22 substitute teachers. I taught a 2nd/3rd grade multi-age classroom for a few years, then moved to Wake County in North Carolina and taught Kindergarten and first grade. While in Wake County I was a top ten finalist for the Wake County Teacher of the Year! In 2008 I moved back to Wisconsin and taught 2nd and 3rd grade. I was then a founding teacher and lead teacher of a public inquiry-based charter school for 12 years.
In 2022 I resigned at the end of the school year, sold everything, and lived on a 44-foot sailboat for two years. I traveled up and down the east coast and to the Bahamas. I learned a lot about myself during those two years! I made it through hurricanes, storms, heat waves, overnight passages, and frigid weather! I used my inquiry skills to learn to live aboard and solve lots of problems. I have also used my inquiry skills to keep myself alive while hiking about 400 miles of the Appalachian Trail, carrying everything on my back. I love adventure and learning new things!
When I came back to land, the opportunity to teach at Monarch felt like it was meant to be! I taught 4th grade last year and moved down to 2nd grade so I could renew my National Board Certification (and I love the lower grades!). I look forward to an amazing 2nd grade year!
My son, CJ (23), is in the Air Force and lives with his wife, Elise, in Delaware.
My daughter, Ellie (18 in September), is a Senior at Fountain Inn High School. She is hoping to be a toxicologist.
I loved school and wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember!
