GCVSP

Summer 2025
Welcome! You are enrolled as a student in my French 1CP/French 2Hon/French 3Hon online class through GCVSP - the original Greenville County Virtual program. I look forward to working with you during this session. Please read carefully through this letter as I have included important guidelines and information to help you succeed in this course.
High School Credit: GCVSP offers ONLY high school courses so grading of all assignments, tests and projects is done according to High School grading guidelines. This means you get the grade you earn, even if that is a ZERO, until the final grade is calculated at the end of the term. The lowest final grade that can be given as a Final Grade is a 50 - according to High School grading guidelines. Exceptions are our three middle school PE courses (PE 6, 7, 8) which do not carry HS credit.
Dropping the Course: It also means that if you do not drop the course in the first ten days, then the final grade will be put on your transcript and calculated in your GPA - Grade Point Average.
Pacing: Online classes taken through the GCVSP are not self-paced. This means that all assignments, quizzes and tests are given a deadline for submission. If you do not submit the work until after the deadline, you will receive a late penalty or a zero if the deadline to submit late work has passed.
Units are rolled out on a schedule called the pacing guide. They are put in the Google Classroom at the beginning of the week and are expected to be turned in, in most cases, by the end of the week. Students manage their OWN time and organize so they can get all their work done for the week by the end-of-week deadline. You should be prepared to do work every day on your online class assignments using your computer. Be sure to check that the computer you are using meets the GCVSP Computer Requirements as outlined on the website gcsvirtual.com Online GCVSP classes are rigorous so being prepared and managing your time will help you be successful.
Live Meets: GCVSP teachers do not provide “live” instruction at set times during the school day. Some instructions may be provided through videos. Each teacher is required to offer a “live” Google Meet session each week during the posted Office Hours or another posted time.
Grades: During the school year, students may view grades in PowerSchool on the student portal, just as you do for any other class you take. In summer, when PowerSchool is down, an alternate method for viewing grades will be used through Google Classroom.
Final Exam: The final exam is project-based and does not require a face-to-face session unless you are enrolled in Algebra 1, English 2 or US History. I will give you information about the final exam assignment unless you are enrolled in one of those three courses in which case, your School Counselor will communicate the date, location, and time for you to take the State EOC exam.
Cheating: The GCVSP administration regards violations of the Intellectual Integrity policy very seriously. The consequence of cheating, plagiarizing, allowing another to use your work, or letting someone else do your work results in a zero for the first offense and may result in an F for the course with the second offense.

Feel free to contact me in one of these ways:
1) Email me at mobryson@greenvilleschools.us. I do not mind student emails. If you have any questions, please ask! I am here to help you. Please use proper letter format, your best spelling, punctuation and grammar in your emails to me. Please identify yourself and the course you are in at the beginning of your email. Always use your school email account for any correspondence in this course.
2) Call or text me at (980)533-4912 If I am unavailable, your call may go straight to voicemail. Texting will most likely be easier than calling if you need something immediately. If not, leave a message, and I will call you back within 24 hours. Remember to include your first and last name, which course you are taking, how to reach you, and what you need. Speak slowly and clearly when leaving voicemail messages. If I cannot hear or understand your voice message, then I cannot call you back. Communication is the KEY to success. If you contact me and I do not respond within 24-48 hours, then I did not get your message for some reason. Please contact me again. If you experience issues with your login, technical issues, or have questions about the content, contact me as soon as possible.
OFFICE HOURS that I am available and dedicated to answering questions from students. I will let you know in Google Classroom Announcements if these times change due to unforeseen circumstances.
Summer Session: Tuesday & Thursday: 10:00am-10:30am
With the exception of the middle school PE courses, the course you are taking is a High School course so the grade will go on your High School transcript and be calculated into your GPA (grade point average)
Since you are able to work on your course wherever/whenever you have your laptop/Chromebook and the internet, we do not provide extensions for mission trips, family vacations, camps or other holidays. Deadlines are firm. Students are required to have reliable Internet access and a working computer for the duration of the course.
Expect homework. (During the school year, if you do not complete your work at your school, you are expected to finish it at home.)
Work is not posted early.
When you email me, please put your name and the course you are taking in the subject line.
Use your best spelling, grammar, and punctuation skills in all your communications with me. No slang or abbreviations please.
If you have an "out of the office" message on your email, please turn it off (go to "options" on your email).
If you open a quiz or test, be prepared to finish it then. In almost all cases you will not be allowed more than one attempt, so be sure you are ready. You are not allowed to "preview" a quiz or test.
Make a commitment now to log on each day and keep up with the workload. You will be successful if you do!
It is very important that you check your student email account frequently (at least once a day!) Important information will be sent via email.
I look forward to working with you!
Sincerely,
Morgane Bryson
