About Ms. Marchant...
Ms. Marchant's Education:
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. When I reached junior high school I was introduced to the "study of life" and knew that this was my niche!
By the time I finished high school my goal was to become a High School Biology Teacher. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree at Radford University in Radford, Virginia, and I obtained my Master's degree in education at Southern Wesleyan University.
Ms. Marchant's Profile :
Throughout the 25 years I have been a Wildcat Teacher, I have enjoyed teaching Biology 1, Biology 2, AP/IB Biology, Chemistry, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Astronomy, and Earth Science. Human Anatomy & Physiology is "my baby". I created our WHS course curriculum.
My son's name is Andrew. He graduated from WHS in 2009. He is very talented at playing the guitar and abstract painting. He was a member of Woodmont's Band of Pride and received the Lois Armstrong Jazz Award his senior year. He was the first at Woodmont to ever receive this award!
Mr. David Thibodeaux, who taught here from 2006 to 2012, is my "sig fig". We've been together since 2012. His son, Evan, graduated from Winthrop University with a major in Chemistry and is a Graduate Fellow at Clemson seeking his PhD in materials chemistry.

Ms. Marchant's Philosophy:
Science is a subject that supports an active classroom. Students in my class will rarely be doing individual seat work. Instead they will often be working in pairs or teams helping each other accomplish an objective, performing lab experiments, or being involved in an activity that reinforces and reviews the concepts that will be assessed. The workforce, as well, requires employees to work in teams, so teaching this skill in the classroom prepares students for their future.
The process of inquiry is what makes science fun and I strive to incorporate opportunities for inquiry whenever possible. This also fosters the use of critical thinking skills.
