Hi my name is Maggie Luchies (Lou-keys) and this will be my 11th year teaching. I have been a part of the virtual program from the beginning and I love it!! I was the Virtual Program Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2024. I have been in 6th grade English, 8th grade English and Social Studies, 6th and 7th grade English, 6th, 6th and 8th grade Interventionist, and this year I am moving into a new role of full time Interventionist.
I am married and I have three wonderful children! My daughter Quinn is 9 almost 10 and is in fourth grade. My son Knox just turned 8 in June and is in third grade. They both attend Bethel Elementary School. My son Declan just turned 3 in June. I love spending time with my family! I am originally from Toledo, Ohio, but I have been in South Carolina for 10 years, so it is starting to feel like home. I graduated with my Master's Degree in Education from The University of Toledo and my Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Journalism is from Eastern Michigan University.
I love connecting with students and getting to know who they are, both in and out of the classroom. I would say my biggest philosophy when it comes to education is that I am not only here to help students learn content, but I am here to help them learn about life, and help ensure when they leave my classroom they have grown in terms of education, but also in terms of who they are as a person. I know middle school can be a really tough road, which is a huge part of why I wanted to be a middle school teacher. I struggled myself and I want to help students navigate the sometimes choppy waters known as middle school.
In my spare time I love to be with my family and friends. I enjoy card games and board games, reading (of course), taking long walks with our dog Kona, and I love to bake! My sister and I own a home bakery and it has been such a fun and wonderful experience and journey.
I am also a huge sports fan! My first love was my love for the Michigan Wolverines, mostly football, but really in all sports. I am a HUGE Michigan fan (as if you couldn't tell by the picture). My husband and I actually got engaged on the football field, right in the middle on the block M! :)
GO BLUE!!!
