COURSE GOALS:
By the end of grade 10:
students will interact with others to explore ideas and concepts, communicate meaning, and develop logical interpretations through collaborative conversations, building upon the ideas of others to clearly express one’s own views while respecting diverse perspectives.
students will read and comprehend literature, including novels, short stories, dramas, and poems.
students will read and comprehend informational texts.
students will gather relevant information from multiple authoritative sources, using advanced searches effectively. They will selectively integrate information into the text, avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.
students will produce clear and coherent writing (arguments, informative/explanatory texts, and narratives) in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
students will demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
students will write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
