Hey y'all!
I'm Margie Henson and I am a second year teacher at Southside High School. I might look familiar because I did a semester of student teaching here in fall of 2023 and I couldn't stay away! As my practicum semester ended, I knew I didn't want to leave Southside permanently. I am super excited to meet and get to know you.
This year I will be teaching English 1 and English 3. I think we will enjoy it!
I believe that every student is more than able to learn and has potential to do amazing things. I strive to build relationships with my students to where they respect each other and have high expectations.
I am born and raised in Greenville and I am a product of Greenville County Schools (Duncan Chapel Elementary, Greenville Middle Academy, Eastside High School & The Fine Arts Center). I went to Greenville Technical College after graduating high school and transferred to North Greenville University where I got my Bachelor's in English. I subbed in Greenville County for two years until finally deciding to become a teacher. I graduated in May 2024 with my Master's of Arts in Teaching and am so excited to finally have my own classroom!
I work part-time at the Eastside YMCA with kids ages 6 weeks-14 years old. There I have worked in every area involving kids from Childwatch, Afterschool, and Summer Camp. When I am not teaching or working at the Y, I enjoy working out, bowling, reading, going to car shows or the dragstrip, hanging out with my friends and family, gardening, and being outside during the warm months.
I am a huge college sports fan, especially the UNC Tarheels and the Clemson Tigers. I usually am at a football game or two, as well as a couple UNC basketball games each season. Don't be afraid to talk to me about sports (unless you're a Dook fan then I can't do it, just kidding!).
I love reading (of course) and enjoy being outside planting fruits/veggies in my garden, going to concerts, working out, running, bowling, hanging out with my cat named Whiskey, and drinking an iced coffee.
